Groundswell leads the Low-Income Financing and Transactions (LIFT) Solar Everywhere Research project, with the goal of developing optimal solar program designs and pricing for working families in each common regulatory and utility service environment. LIFT’s research will serve both renters and homeowners, and its goal is to accelerate solar access for low- and moderate-income (LMI) households across the country.

Financial Innovation to Accelerate Solar Access

Groundswell has three partners in this effort: Elevate, Clean Energy Works and Southface. Each LIFT research partner is responsible for contributing actual energy efficiency, solar, and community solar customer data to the research effort from the many solar and clean energy projects that the groups have established to serve LMI households. LIFT will also gather and analyze project finance and associated customer experience data nationally from a diversity of solar projects and programs.

Informed by this analysis, Groundswell created a free, dynamic toolkit, the “LIFT Solar Toolkit” that utilities, municipalities, solar developers, state regulators, and others can use to establish new and expanded solar programs to serve more LMI families nationwide. LIFT’s research is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy research@groundswell.org.
